UK Supplier for DP Sensors

Differential Pressure Sensors are used to measure the difference in pressure between 2 points on in variety of applications. These sensors can provide accurate and reliable readings for real time monitoring of pressure to ensure maximised performance within a system. Sensors can be used to measure pressure of liquids and gases in pressurised tanks, air handling units, across HEPA filters and more, to provide your business with the accurate information you need to run efficiently.

Our range of differential pressure sensors are known for their quality and reliability. Designed with premium capacitive sensing technology, our selection of Setra products offers single-range and multi-range (field selectable) pressure sensors. Capable of measuring both liquid and gases, we have the product to meet a breadth of HVAC applications and can be trusted in your most critical applications.

What are Differential Sensors and How Do They Work?

A Differential Pressure Sensor is a device used to measure pressure difference between 2 different points. This can include liquids, gases and steam. They can also be referred to as differential pressure transmitters and differential pressure transducers.

Our primary range of differential pressure transducers are designed with capacitive sensing technology. These sensors have thin diaphragms located between two parallel metal plates. When external pressure is applied, the diaphragm flexes slightly, causing a change in the capacitance and therefore a change in the output of the sensor.

The sensor will send an electronic signal, which is then converted into a current or voltage output to indicate a change in pressure level.

Types of Sensors

We offer 3 main categories of Differential Pressure Sensors, including:

  • Very Low Differential Pressure Sensors - are designed to measure extremely small differences between two points, they are able to detect even the most subtle changes in pressure. They are commonly used in HVAC systems (such as smoke ventilation) or medical devices as they enable accurate and reliable monitoring in sensitive areas.

  • Multi Range Differential Pressure Sensors - are used to measure pressure differences across multiple ranges. They can adapt to operate in various operating conditions. These sensors are cost-effective as they are used for systems which experience multiple changes in pressure levels.

  • Digital Differential Pressure Transmitters - are modern devices, which convert an analog signal into a digital output, which indicates a change in pressure between 2 points. These transmitters offer remote monitoring, calibration and diagnostics. They are commonly used in industrial processes, HVAC systems and various applications where precise and reliable pressure measurements are essential.

Selection Criteria for Differential Pressure Sensors

  • Pressure Type - identify what type of pressure needs to be measured, taking into consideration the maximum and minimum levels required to monitor.

  • Accuracy of the sensor - Understand how sensitive the sensors needs to be to ensure the device is able to provide reliable and detailed monitoring.

  • Surrounding environment - Can the sensors withhold humid, chemical exposure and/or extreme both high or freezing temperatures, as this may impact sensor accuracy.

  • Temperature exposure - What temperature will the sensors be exposed to and how high or low will the sensor need to measure. Will the sensor remain accurate and stable regardless of the temperature?

  • Output signal - what alert is required to signal a change in pressure, does the alert need to record data or sound an alarm only?

  • Interchangeability - is the sensor compatible with current settings of the device? How quickly can the sensor be changed in the event of a sensor error? Consider the severity of the situation if the application is critical.
